EU
A variety of funding opportunities for research or innovation projects are offered by the European Union (EU).
Horizon Europe
Horizon Europe is the ninth Framework Programme for Research and Innovation in the European Union.
It will run for seven years (2021-2027) and forms the core of European research funding and is one of the largest public research funding programmes worldwide.
Horizon Europe offers a great deal of continuity, as it follows on from its predecessor Horizon 2020. One new feature is the institutionalisation of the European Innovation Council (EIC). Its goal is to support breakthrough innovation to create markets of the future. Horizon Europe will also introduce a strategic planning process and missions for the first time.
Horizon Europe offers a broad range of funding opportunities, from support for basic scientific research to application-oriented projects and market launch activities. The funding is aimed at individual researchers, small and larger consortia and companies, especially SMEs, in all fields.
Horizon Europe is based on three pillars ("Scientific excellence", "Global challenges and industrial competitiveness", "Innovative Europe") and the horizontal part "Widening Participation and Strengthening the European Research Area".
To provide guidance, practical information and assistance on all aspects of participation in Horizon Europe the network of National Contact Points (NCPs) were established.
